Good Faith Estimate
Effective Jan. 1, 2022, a ruling went into effective called the ” No Surprises Act” which requires mental health practitioners to provide a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) about out- of network care to any patient who is uninsured or who is insured but does not plan to use their insurance benefits to pay for health care items and/or services.<br>
You have the right to receive a GFE for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items of services. This includes related costs like medical test, prescription drugs, equipment and hospital fees. Make sure your health care provider gives you a GFE in writing at least 1 business day before your medical services. You can also ask your health care provider, an any other provider you choose, for a GFE before you schedule a session. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your GFE, you can dispute the bill. Make sure you save a copy of your GFE.
